The Association for Core Texts and Courses. Supports liberal education by promoting the common study of core texts, including world classics and works of major cultural significance. Members include humanists, artists, social scientists, and other professionals who share a common concern with excellence in liberal education.

 

ALSCWAssociation of Literary Scholars, Critics and Writers. Seeks to promote excellence in literary criticism and scholarship, and works to ensure that literature thrives in both scholarly and creative environments. Sponsors annual conference providing space for encounters among scholars, critics, editors, teachers, fiction writers, poets, playwrights, and screenwriters.

 

CSUDHCalifornia State University, Dominguez Hills. Offers an M.A. in the Humanities by distance education. The program stresses the three areas of cultural knowledge, perceptual skills and creative production. Other distance education programs are also available.

 

HMUHarrison Middleton University. This distance education institution offers doctorate programs based on the study of the Great Books of the Western World. Concentrations are available in imaginative literature, natural science, philosophy and religion, and social science.

 

MLAModern Language Association. Provides opportunities for its members to share their scholarly findings and teaching experiences with colleagues and to discuss trends in the academy.  Works to strengthen the study and teaching of language and literature.
